A Review Of The Curvy Kate Romance And Gia

19 Nov

When it comes to non padded bras I am particularly fussy. The shape and coverage has to be spot on as I do not fall easily in love with the sheer fabric, no matter how beautiful the bra.
I have started to wear non padded bras fairly regularly as I have several gorgeous dresses with limited bust room that I cannot bear to part with! And non padded bras seem to compress my bust a little more, especially my favourite, Emily.

Recently I received two 36H/18 sets from Curvy Kate – the Romance and the Gia. I have previously reviewed both on the Brastop blog but some time ago and in different colourways and larger cup sizes.
First up was the Romance.

I really loved the red and black colourway and the pretty detailing on this bra – simple yet effective, like all curvy Kate bras. I found the 36H to be a good fit for me, although it was slightly too low under my arms, but that was down to incompatibility rather than a sizing issue. The briefs were a tad small in an 18, plus I don’t get along with curvy Kate knickers as they are made of unforgiving embroidery and they cut in rather unflatteringly.
The shape of the bra was similar to the Emily in that it gave me a rounded and somewhat flattened shape, rather than projected ‘torpedos’.

The fully adjustable straps and three hooks and eyes supported me and felt firm and secure. I like a wider band as it helps reduce back fat and gives my shoulders even more of a break.
If the side of the bra were a little higher or I had less underarm fat then this bra would be pretty perfect. It is still one that I will reach for to wear under those tighter dresses, but it can become a little comfy when worn all day long.

The next up was the Gia in black.

I have tried the red version before and I adored the colour and the small details. Being a plain black bra this was no show stopper colour wise, but those small details such as the gem on the central gore and on the briefs just give it a little extra glam.

The shape the Gia gives me is slightly more pointed than the Romance. It felt a tiny bit higher at the sides and seemed to contain me better than the Romance. The smooth satiny material that makes up the lower portion of the cups felt amazing and looks great under clothes, and the matching look on the knickers made them far more forgiving and flattering.
Once again the three hooks and eyes and adjustable straps proved a winning combination for me and I have to say that although the Romance gives a preferred shape, Gia is my favourite out of the two.
