In my time I have done many a swimwear review. Just click on the ‘Swimwear’ tab on my blog and it’ll bring up several posts from the last five or so years. Toady’s post won’t be a review per se as a lot of items are no longer available, but rather a round up of where I tend to buy swimwear and what I like when it comes to my togs. I get soooooooooo many questions asking about swimwear for large busts – particularly swimming costumes (which are my least favourite, interestingly!), and so I thought I’d create a little posts showing you my favourite costumes that I have bought or been gifted* this year along with a dialogue about why I like them and where I like to shop.
The One Piece
I got this particular 2XL swimming costume from Forever21+ a few months back – sadly it has now sold out. After trying a friend’s costume on from the same brand I was sold on the length (I am 5’7 with a long torso) and level of ok support. I would rather wear a bikini top with high waisted bottoms, but every so often it’s possible to find a little gem that is slightly more fun and interesting.
The Matching Set
This bra sized (36J/20) super supportive bikini top with matching bottoms is from the finest bra makers in all the land – Ewa Michalak*. As you’ll see from the rest of the post, I am a huge fan of mismatched bikinis as you can get away with taking less sets on holiday and just pairing different tops with different bottoms. But it’s also nice to wear a matching set – especially one as gorgeous as this!
The Almost Matching Sets
Matching sets can either be expensive or just hard to come by in the right sizes. And so, although it can take a bit of searching, it is worth looking through some popular sites for bottomms that matgch your tops. I got this Pour Moi top from ASOS, and happily white is a very easy colour to match! I love these crochet bottoms, also from ASOS. And luckily, they go really well with an old Evans shirt posing as a cover up!
When it came to this Freya bikini, a little more work was required with regards to snagging an almost matching pair of bottoms.
I got the Freya Bondi top (that is ever so slightly small but ok for a spot of sunbathing) from the sale at Belle-Lingerie. The nearly matching bottoms from the ongoing ASOS Curve sale and I am really chuffed at how good they look together. Thank goodness for sales!
The Block Colours&Pattern Combo
Another two sites that I love for cup sized swimwear are Figleaves and Leia Lingerie. Both have a mixture of new items as well as sales items. Cup sized swimwear takes a hell of a a lot of work to make them supportive and comfortable, and as a result they are really not cheap! But personally I feel a lot more secure in them and they last really well as well.
I love block coloured bottoms. Most of mine come from Forever21+ and Lazeme – my preferred brand is Elomi. Thanks to the colourful tops I can pair them with a range of colourful bottoms, meaning that the options are endless! Plus, I find that a high waisted bottom and bra sized bikini top give me a lot more support then even a bra sized swimming costume, and pretty much as much coverage. And if you want even more for when you’re strolling about by the pool or beach then a cover up from ASOS is exactly what you need!
The Tenuous Match
Do they both have stripes? Is there a similar colour somewhere? Is the print the same but in totally different colourways and sizes? Then it’s a tenuous match! Another bargainous place that I like to get my bikini tops from is Brastop – a site that sells new season and discount bras, sports bras and swimwear. They have so many sizes and so much variety, and I usually struggle to not buy everything that’s available in my size! I also really love Simply Be as they sell so many different brands and cuts and sizes. As for the bottoms – I hit that ASOS sale once again! There are clashes happening all over the shop but hey ho, it’s nice to wear bright colours! And triple leopard with the help of my Simply Be leopard print shirt – well if you’re gonna do it…
What do you like to rock on the beach? Are you a fan or swimming costumes, bikinis or tankinis? Do you clash with pride or are you strictly matching? Where do you like to shop and do you prefer cup sized swimwear? I’d love to know!
