It’s great to see so many new plus size brands popping up on the market, as well as other brands extending their sizes or making a plus size range.

One brand that has done the latter is Goddiva. I must say, after seeing the dresses in the Goddiva ‘straight size’ range I am gutted that they haven’t just extended the sizes of those items. I know plenty of plus size women who would absolutely adore and wear the hell out of a lot of those items, and although the plus size items are lovely, they feel a little ‘safe’. This is just my personal opinion, and I do know of many plus size women who will adore the items, and probably some slimmer women who would love it if the pieces came in sizes smaller than 16-24.
I do, however, love patterns, and so when offered a piece to review I went for this V-neck short sleeve ponte dress.

I went for this dress in a 16, and I teamed it with a Freya Deco bra, some light control shorts from Primark, and some Primark heels.

The pattern on the dress reminds me of a twist on the ‘camouflage’ print, which I really like. The ponte has enough stretch to it to accommodate to my body, and it’s thick enough to hide a multidude of sins, especially with that busy print. I have been wearing this dress quite a lot lately as it is nice and warm and a nice length. The sleeves are a little shorter than I would like, but at this time of year my arms do not see the light of day! The neckline and length are both perfect on me.

The thickness of the dress works against me in one way – it doesn’t nip into my waist like I would like. Naturally a belt has rectified this for me, just like always!
This is my second piece from Goddiva Plus and both items have been worn and washed several time and I am really happy with them.

The next new plus size shop that I have come across recently is Taking Shape. Taking Shape are an Australian brand that have a few retail stores – in fact, one is just down the road from me in Kingston-Upon-Thames.
I would describe the items that Taking Shape stock is more ‘reserved’, and when I was offered a piece to try I did struggle somewhat to find something that I though would work for me.
I eventually settled on this purple ponte dress in a size 16.

I must confess that the dress on the model didn’t appeal to me too much. I figured that the dress would look a little more fitted on me in a size 16, which is what she had on – and thankfully I was right!

I once again teamed it with my light shapewear, Freya Deco bra and Primark heels. When I have worn it out I have added a belt to give me that extra little bit of figure defining help. The thick ponte has once again been a blessing, as have the sleeves. The neckline is perfect – a nice subtle ‘v’ shape that doesn’t show off too much. The length is fantastic – hitting me below the knees. I wish it would taper in a little more for that flattering shape, but now I’m just being picky!

Taking Shape are probably not a brand that I will ever wear regularly, but it’s fabulous to see more options out there. Their clothes currently range from a size 14-24, and I hope that in time they will expand those sizes, just as I do with Goddiva Plus.

What do you think of these two brands and their ranges? Have you or will you try out any of their clothes?
